Pisgah National Forest

Being the most visited national forest in North Carolina, Pisgah offers over 400 miles of hiking trails, and plenty of outdoor activities including bicycling, horseback riding, rock climbing, fishing, wildlife observation, photography and spectacular waterfalls. (16 miles). Web site

Directions from The Waterfall Cabin and The Streamside Home:  At the end of Crane Lane, turn right. You are now on East Fork Road. Continue for 4 miles and turn left on Hwy 276 North. Travel approximately 11 miles. Turn left at the light before Wal-Mart. You are still on Hwy 276 North. Go straight for 1 ½ miles. The Pisgah Ranger Station will be on your right.

Directions from The River Front Fishing Cottage:  At the end of Concrete Drive turn left til road dead ends .  Turn left onto Walnut Hollow Rd and go 3 miles turn right onto Island Ford Rd and go 2 miles til it dead ends, turn left on Hwy 276 North. Travel approximately 7 miles. Turn left at the light before Wal-Mart. You are still on Hwy 276 North. Go straight for 1 ½ miles. The Pisgah Ranger Station will be on your right. (14 miles)

Dupont State Forest

Dupont is an enchanting state forest in North Carolina and is a popular attraction for visitors in the area. The beautiful waterfalls and ninety miles of trails on the 10,256 acres of forest land provide great hiking, biking, horseback riding, and wildlife sightings. Hunting and Fishing are by special permit only. Continue for 4 miles and turn right on Hwy 276 South.  Travel 3 ½ miles and turn left on Cascade Road. Travel 1.9 miles to the first pull-off area on left. Continue 2 ½ miles to Station Road and turn right. Travel 2.4 miles to pull-off on left. You can hike to three waterfalls from here … Hooker Falls, Triple Falls, and High Falls. Watch for various other hiking trails and pull-off areas. (14 miles)

Directions from The River Front Fishing Cottage:   At the end of Concrete Drive turn left til road dead ends   Turn right and continue on East Fork Rd for 8.4 miles and dead ends again.  Turn right on Hwy 276 South. Travel 3 ½ miles and turn left on Cascade Road. Travel 1.9 miles to the first pull-off area on left. Continue 2 ½ miles to Station Road and turn right. Travel 2.4 miles to pull-off on left. Nantahala National Forest

Directions from "Trout House Falls": At the end of Crane Lane, turn left. You are now on East Fork Road. Travel 4.3 miles and turn left past the green barn (still on East Fork Road) and travel 3/7 miles to stop sign.Turn right at the stop sign. You are now on Pickens Hwy (Hwy 178 North). Travel to the first red light. Turn left at the first red light. You are now on Main Street. Travel 2/10 of a mile to the stop sign.Turn left at the stop sign (still on Hwy 178 North). Travel ½ mile to next stop sign. Turn left at the stop sign. You are now on 64 West (Rosman Hwy). Travel for 10 miles. Turn left on 281 South. Whitewater Falls will be 9 miles on the left.

Travel to the first red light. Turn s and turn left past the green barn (still on East Fork Road) and travel 3/10 miles to stop sign. Turn right at the stop sign. You are now on Pickens Hwy (Hwy 178 North). Travel to the first red light. Turn left at the first red light. You are now on  Main Street. Travel 2/10 of a mile to the stop sign. Turn left at the stop sign (still on Hwy 178 North). Travel ½ mile to next stop sign. Turn left at the stop sign. You are now on 64 West (Rosman Hwy). Travel for 10 miles. Turn left on 281 South. Whitewater Falls will be 9 miles on the left. (22 miles)

Caesars Head State Park

Caesars Head State Park is an excellent park for nature enthusiasts and photographers. Located at 3,266 feet above sea level, the park provides a panoramic view with over 50 miles of hiking trails. Raven Cliff Falls, located along one of the park's many hiking trails, is one of the highest waterfalls in the eastern United States. (12 miles) Web site

Gorges State Park

Gorges State Park is the newest state park in North Carolina and the first park west of Asheville. It encompasses a 7,000-acre state park and a 3,000-acre game land. Hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking are available. (19 miles) Web site
